Popcorn Day at Minnesota Masonic
OK, Carl, you know how you can't be a Nilsen and not love popcorn? Dawn and I arrived at Grandpa Mick's right at popcorn time, and Grandma came a few minutes later, so Dad joined us in the "fish tank" lounge for popcorn and lemonade! We thought some pictures might make you jealous!
Liz is at Tennis and Life camp at Gustavus, soaking up enough sun to last you and her for the next 3 weeks until you get home. She says she is WAY sunburned! She gets to the lake tomorrow night.
The "Red Neck Yacht Club", as you call them, arrive tomorrow night. We can't wait! We'll take pictures ASAP, and post them for you to see. Hope you receive the wireless on Monday, and can get it up and running to everyone's satisfaction some time next week!

A Gustavus Greeting
Carl,
In case you don't recognize the number, the 413 behind our shoulders is the door to your Gustavus dorm room. Cathie is residing a couple floors below this summer while running Lutheran Summer Music. Don't worry, its all staff and faculty using your new "house," they promise to leave it neat and tidy!
Cathie and I had an entertaining supper on the shores of Lake Washington (a whole 4 miles from my house...why haven't I discovered this place yet??). Very reminiscent of the shores of 'BOJI.
I trust you're having a great week! Keep your blog posts coming...I'm living vicariously through them.

A weekend without Carl!
Well, somehow, we survived our first Carl-less weekend. Liz, Dad and Mom spent the weekend at the lake, planning for the arrival of Joe's friends one week from now. Carl calls these guys "The Red-Neck Yacht Club" (from a Country-Western song). Liz is so proud - she personally takes credit for teaching Carl to like country music!
This upcoming week has Liz and Dad working at the plant, Mom working at home, Liz going to Tennis and Life Camp at Gustavus Thursday through Sunday, Mom spending Thursday and Friday in the Cities helping Grandma and Grandpa (and Phroggy) finish emptying out their old Gramercy digs. So keep those phone calls coming, Carl - we may be busy, but we still miss you!
And the rest of the family is looking forward to MANY more blog entries!

Greetings from St. Peter
Good Morning, Carl!
As you can plainly see, Reggie and Lizzy are trying to keep your bed warm for you. They did ask for nicer pillows though.
It was a stormy evening in southern Minnesota. Nothing severe, really just noisy. Its hot and humid already and rumor has it, we're in for another round of storms later today!
We all hope you're having a great time in Peru. Remember, you're there to STUDY, so please do a little of that too!
Love, Phroggy, R&L

Computer issues in Peru...
To family and friends...
Carl called tonight, and said things are going great in Peru! He can't get his computer to work with his family's wireless yet, but he's working on it. So look for blog updates from Carl once he gets the bugs worked out!
He spent the past two days touring parts of Lima with his summer classmates, getting to know his new family, and learning his way around. Classes start on Wednesday, and he's really looking forward to them!
To Carl...
Hi from Gustavus!

Hi, Carl!
Well, Carl, you never know who will stop by to say "Hi" while you're away. For instance, we were visiting Grandpa Mick on Sunday morning, and his first question to us was, "How's the scholar doing? Has he started classes yet?" Grandpa wanted to say hi, so we made it easy for him! You may want to check in from time to time to see who is saying "Hi" each day!

The Last (Beef) Supper
Carl, Joe and Kirsten shared a last taste of Minnesota this evening, with a wonderful steak at Mancini's in St. Paul. Our friend, John Mancini, presented Carl with a going-away cake, spumoni ice cream, and a new Mancini's cap to remember the night.
Earlier in the day, Carl said good bye to Grandpa and Grandma Rabbe and Liz in Trimont. We stopped for a brief minute at Station #1 to say good bye to Phroggy. Then it was on to Manicini's for the last taste of Minnesota beef for five weeks.
The three elder Rabbes (J, K & C) toasted "Buen Viage y Buen Provecho" ("Good Travel and Good Eating"). It's early to bed tonight so we can be at the MSP airport by 6 am tomorrow. Carl takes an 8 am flight to Miami, then transfers to another flight to Lima, Peru.
Liz, meanwhile, is at home in Trimont, taking care of Guardian, and watching movies with her friend, Rachel.
